If a concussion injury is not treated properly it can kill or have devastating effects in later life. Concussion happens when the skull is knocked and the brain rocks back and forth in the skull bruising it. Short term effects of concussion can be dizziness, headaches, blurred vision, going into a coma, seizures, headaches and short term memory loss. A very serious consequence of receiving two concussions in a short period of time can be second impact syndrome which is when the brain swells rapidly. Second impact syndrome is nearly always fatal and if it is not fatal it leaves the victim severely disabled often in a vegatative state for the rest of their lives. The long term effects of concussion include lack of inhibition, intense anger or aggression issues, personality changes, lack of concentration, problems organizing, planning and problem solving, memory loss, sleep loss and language impairment.
